How can anyone still defend this guy?

Question: You said October 24th, “Absolutely, we’re winning.” And I wanted to…

Bush: Yes, that was an indication of my belief we’re going to win

Question: Mr. President, less than two months ago at the end of one of the bloodiest months in the war, you said, “Absolutely we’re winning.” Yesterday you said, “We’re not winning, we’re not losing.” Why did you drop your confident assertion about winning?

Bush: My comments — the first comment was done in this spirit: I believe that we’re going to win; I believe that — and by the way, if I didn’t think that, I wouldn’t have our troops there. That’s what you got to know. We’re going to succeed. My comments yesterday reflected the fact that we’re not succeeding nearly as fast as I wanted when I said it at the time…”

With regard to the first Q & A just because you believe that something is going to happen in the future does not make it an absolute in the present. Anyone that cannot see the difference should not be the leader of the country.

With regard to the second answer, if it was written by Hunter S Thompson one would say - HST finally crossed the line into complete pyscobabble - but this was spoken by the leader of the free world

Dr Hoo’s Memphis Restaurants

Dr Hoo

In what has to be one of the best Memphis area guides Dr Hoo’s Memphis Restaurants is a trustworthy guide to eating in Memphis.

Dr Hoo writes:

Sensing a great void in the lives of Memphians, my wife and I decided to start a blog describing our experiences at local restaurants. We eat out whenever we can and thought it would be fun to share those experiences with whoever is interested in Memphis food. We’ll see where this takes us!

The posts are easy to read and cover a large swath of restaurants in one of the best dining cities in the country. While their are other good memphis food blogs such as Squirrel Squad, Dr Hoo’s is what I read when I want to know what to eat in Memphis

Hillbilly Casino Rockabilly BandThink Elvis Presley meets Van Halen, Hillbilly Casino singer Nic Roulette said as he left a message for drummer Andrew Dickson about auditioning. With a strong Rockabilly core, the Hillbilly Casino isn’t afraid to wear their influences on their sleeves.

To The Hillbilly Casino there are the obvious masters, Johnny Cash, Elvis, Brian Setzer/Stray Cats, Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins. Yet don’t be surprised to hear some Social Distortion, Ramones, Hank Williams, Black Sabbath, George Jones, Jason and the Scorchers and Cheap Trick thrown in for good measure.

Ninja Notes from the Web Builder 2.0 Conference

The Ninja The Ninja recently attended the Web Builder 2.0 Conference in his official capacity as Zend Evangelist:

Last week I attended the Web Builder 2.0 Conference in snazzy Las Vegas, Nevada. This year, the name of the game was ajax, Ajax, and AJAX. Our beloved PHP had a decent representation throughout the various sessions, but no more than during my own “PHP Powers Mashups” talk. At the conference I bumped into PHP security guru and buddy Chris Shiflett, and met some new folks like Cal Henderson from Flickr and Ask Bjørn Hansen. Normally, you’ll find me working the Zend booth at this kind of conference, but this time I was free to attend sessions. I decided to post my notes on the most interesting things I saw at the conference, presented to you here list style.

Why is the NBA’s inferior brand of basketball news?

I was reading the news this morning and the AI no trade story is very popular at the moment. I was thinking about it, and then I started thinking why it was news at all. I mean why is the NBA and it’s over priced prima donna’s still news?

Beat Lithuania and then you can be news again.

Come in second in some international competition and then you can be news again, but for now no news for you.

These guys are obviously not the best basketball players in the world, hell they didn’t even make it to the final game of the World Championship. Spain and Greece beat the US “stars” - and in the Olympics 2 years before Argentina and Italy finished ahead of the US Ballers.

So, by my count US basketball is maybe #5.

I know that some foreign players like Ginobili and Gasol play in the NBA but that is not the point. The point is that the current system of basketball in the US is broken and the NBA is the pinnacle of that system. The NBA “superstars” can’t beat teams that can fundamentally pass, pick, and play defense.

So why is this inferior brand of basketball news? Maybe we just love style over substance.
