Atlanta Falcons - Trade Michael Vick

Being down here is the South I get to see a lot of Atlanta Falcons games, and they have a pretty good team, but if they want to have a championship team they need to make a big move.

Trade Michael Vick.

Michael Vick is the World B Free of the NFL - he is exciting, even amazing, and sells a lot of tickets. What he is not, imho, is a championship caliber NFL quarterback.

Okay, maybe the World B Free reference was a low blow, and he seems like a good guy so I don’t want to be attacking him personally - but his trade value is not going to be any higher then it is right now. The falcons could get some defensive help up the middle for this year as well as a couple good future draft picks for him, and give themselves a chance to become a contender.

Matt Schaub is a good quarterback and I think he gives the Falcons at least as good an opportunity to win now as Vick does. Is Schaub as exciting as Vick? Not even close. Will he complete more third down passes then Vick on average? Yes. Schaub will be a starting quarterback in the NFL in the near future if the Falcons let him go and he is a better fit for the Falcons offense. If Schaub was given the offense and got all of the reps, I think that he would be a more efficient quarterback then Vick in short order.

Vick was the 25th rated quarterback in the league last year, that is 25th out of 34 - that is there were only 9 quarterbacks that qualified that were rated lower then he was.

By and large if you look at the list, the teams with the higher rated QB’s went to the playoff’s - only one quarterback in the lower half directed his team to the post season and that was Chris Simms who was in his first year at the helm and got significantly better as the year went on.

Vick starts the bottom quarter of this list.

Look at the division that the Falcons play in, the 2 top teams, the Bucs and the Carolina Panthers have both figured out how to stop Vick. Not even his dazzling running is effective against those teams. With Vick at the helm you can just about pencil in 4 conference losses for the Falcons.

Vick completed just 55.3 percent of his passes last year. The conventional wisdom is that a NFL quarterback needs to complete over 60% of his passes to be effective. His yards per attempt rank him 26th in the league and his 13 interceptions rank him 25th.

Vicks quarterback rating: 73.1
Schaub’s quarterback rating of 98.1

Not to mention that I am surprised every time Vick gets up from a hit and is not holding his knee or ankle. He has yet to prove that he can survive the rigors of the NFL season playing the game the way that he does.

Now, lets look at Vick’s perceived value - do you think that one of the other quarterback challenged clubs would not part with some really good players and or picks to secure Vick? Of course, because the egos of coaches are such that they think that the only thing Vick is missing is THEIR scheme or THEIR coaching.

And if you need proof of what a team can do by trading one superstar for draft picks, just look back at what Dallas did when they built their championship juggernauts by trading Herschell Walker to Minnesota for all those draft picks.

So the value proposition for fielding a winning football team is clear to me. Now Mr. Blank may be more interested in selling tickets then winning championships - and if so he should keep Vick. He is exciting as hell. But, if Blank, McCay, and Mora want to put together a championship team the solution is clear.

You make an interesting point. On the surface, the idea of trading Vick would seem insane, but getting draft picks and building a bigger foundation for a team has proven to work in the past.

Here’s a thought though - instead of trading Vick, how about they simply get him out of the limitations of the West Coast Offense and allow him to run around and actually be Michael Vick? If he gets hurt, oh well, at least they had a shot at actually using all of his talents.

Okay you all……this reply is sent in an honest, innocent effort (NOT to “upstage” Bobby here) but, simply to “RE-enforce” and amplify, enhance, and to elaborate just a little bit more on this topic. Keep in mind that the Falcon’s organization is possibly/perhaps missing an opportunity here to “make up” some serious money , and actually put this on a “Grand” scale - something along these lines: A very important factor here, that can not get lost in the shuffle is that, if you are going to “stage” something as monumental and even “ground-breaking” as this - one absolutely must come up “Big” as to every detail going into a production of this magnitude. Take the stadium for example: First, it should have a design such that each seat has plenty of room for a “fan” to yell and scream and “point” their fingers and fists defiantly at the varmint on the playing surface as he attempts to use his skill(s) to avoid the various dogs trying to exact their revenge. Instead of those “spacious/spread-out” stadiums, WE prefer that the seats are engineered so that they are “closer” and more “on-top” of the action because this definitely enhances and increases the “passion” and noise level of the ravenous fans as they whoop and holler and “high-five” and interact with each other. No smoking or drugs or drinking allowed - these customers shall be “pumped-up” enough and yet, open gambling is permitted since Vick and all his circle of vermin did the same. Speaking of which, he is going to have some company on the field = once the Federales “round-up” the rest of the crud involved in his crimes - they too shall be there along-side wearing football gear to try and “protect” their quarterback from the eventual carnage. Bobby, a change about the 10-foot electrified cyclone fence, because aside from the fans “rushing” and spilling onto the field after the event is over, there is the problem of “obscuring” the audiences’ vision in order to see the action; Instead, the perimeter of the field is going to have a couple rows of very handsome, alert, sharp, strong and muscled, and of course, well-trained, Doberman and German Shepherd dogs with their sharper, even more muscled, intelligent, “focused” and confident handlers prepared to “go into action” any time necessary. Depending on seating capacity, there shall be a first-come, first-served limited, free pass to members of “Veterinarians Around the World” to include their families naturally and, should it make sense to invite dog lovers involved in the entertainment industry? - particularly the people involved in making and producing such television shows and movies as: “Lassie,” “Benji,” “Rin-Tin-Tin,” the animated, “Lady and the Tramp” and “101 Dalmatians,” “K-9 Cop,” ToTo from “The Wizard of Oz,” and “Old Yeller” to name a few. This gets the EVERYONE even more “riled,” and more enthusiastic, and happy and full of “vim and vigor” and really goes a long way to create the “circus” type atmosphere trying to be achieved here. Bobby, this is not going to be a “Pay-for-View” event, for the simple reason that after an International television audience sees/witnesses this spectacle and the horrible consequences as the results of one’s action(s) = they are surely going to go through “shock” and be encouraged to be “kind to dumb animals” and dissuaded from doing anything like this in the future. Finally, ALL the people going through the turnstiles leading to the stadium are going to get a nice, huge “doggie bag” to keep as a souvenir, OR, to use for “collecting” or gathering things from the “field of play” that probably is going to be scattered all over the place!. In conclusion, when we get together - all of us are going into even further detail/discussion about this affair; and, most definitely the fun it is going to be. Please, any commentary or input shall be gladly received and of course, welcome. Looking forward to hearing from you all……okay!.

These crimes are horrible. The # 1 fact, every story leaves out is that Mike Sick even had a website: mikevicksk9s.com where he sold these dogs.

This guy needs to experience the same faith the dogs experienced. Mike Sick Sucks!

Dude, I bet you’re eating your words right now about Michael Vick being a good guy. Of course, who would have known what a piece of shit he is when you wrote this article last summer.

Fuck Michael Vick! I hope his punk ass not only loses his job, but gets slammed to the ground like he did his dogs!

Forget trading Vick…he needs to be incarcerated. The charges are just too heinous.

I object to news articles implying that it is only “animal rights activists” who are putting the pressure on the league and advertisers. I do not belong to PETA or the SPCA or any other “activist” group. But I despise what Michael Vick has done — and there is enough evidence that he did do what he is accused of. I am urging everyone I know not to attend Falcon’s games, not to watch them on TV or listen to them on the radio, and not to buy from advertisers, if any of these parties continues to allow him to play or to endorse him. I won’t say what I think should really happen to him, but I will be extremely disappointed if he does not get the full legal sentence applicable to the heinous, inhumane acts he has committed. He does not deserve a speck of pity or tolerance. He did not show any toward his dogs and he should not be shown any. If another team will accept him in a trade, they should also be boycotted for supporting him.

Here’s an even better idea… instead of changing your entire offense to suit one player, trade him, get players that already know and understand the system and call it a day. Keeping Vick around in any case is not going to be good, especially now. Unfortunately, even if Vick gets away with murder (of animals) then his trade value drops significantly. It will drop even MORE drastically IMO b/c Vick (unlike Kobe) has nothing to show as a QUARTERBACK. Accuracy sucks, rating sucks, TD:INT ratio, complete garbage. If he couldn’t run so fast he would have been cut from the NFL by now (or been given to the Browns, lol). In summation, the Falcons are now screwed with a player that may be collecting paychecks from his prison cell.

I could make favors and pretend he was or could be doing pretty much anything. However, I find only a call for him in lock-up, jail and the big time. Just a fleeting thought in reaction to what one might even consider something with a bit of normalcy for the dear disturbed man. Big time, big boy jail time…..alll you can give him; at best, it is too little. A few years cleaning up some kennels (paper towels no water stream), oh, and supervised of course….just a start. Mr. Vick, may you spend the rest of your life realizing what a totally disturbed human being you are…disgusting and low life…at best.

My whole problem with people discussing the firing of Michael Vick is this… Why is it that we are in an uproar over his dog practices but when star athletes get into other trouble with the law, including raping women… we do nothing. Ray Lewis in Baltimore is a revered football player but he has a rap sheet. How does the community decide who is worthy of our forgiveness?

Hi - in light of the Michael Vick stuff, I am especially pleased to share this with others! Our goal is not to dwell on Vick and the evils of dog fighting, but to teach people how animals SHOULD BE TREATED, and what a blessing they are. Thanks for reading it and passing it on if it interests you. If it doesn’t, I apologize. ~ Nancy Cronk at http://www.Animal Chaplains.com.

    Press Release August 16, 2007

“Animal Chaplains To Bless All Creatures on World Animal Day”

~ from the Interfaith Association of Animal Clergy

In what will look like a scene from the popular family movie, “Evan Almighty”, scores of Animal Chaplains around the world will bless hundreds, perhaps thousands of animals in many different settings on October 4th 2007. At a pet cemetery on the east coast, to a city park in the desert, to a sandy beach on the west coast, they will walk in on a leash, fly in on a harness, and slither in their cages. Barking, mewing, bleating, mooing, whinnying and purring will join human voices in hymns of praise and worship.

That day is World Animal Day, a day dedicated to honoring, blessing, and protecting animals all over the world. World Animal Day was founded at an ecologist’s convention in Florence, Italy in 1931 as a way of highlighting the plight of endangered species. October 4th was chosen as World Animal Day because it is also the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, a Catholic Church holiday which is often celebrated with an annual “blessing of the pets”. Since then, it has grown to encompass all kinds of animal life and has been widely celebrated around the world. Churches and synagogues in many faiths traditions have adopted “Pet Blessing Day” or “World Animal Day” in increasing numbers every year.

The Interfaith Association of Animal Chaplains prepares for World Animal Day by referring its members and visitors to the official World Animal Day website. The site provides ideas and resources to individuals, families, community groups and congregations everywhere. People can post their pledge for volunteering at a World Animal Day event. In addition to blessing pets, volunteers will work at animal shelters, zoos, rescues, and other nonprofit organizations. Dogs will be walked, cats will be brushed, horses will be groomed, and fish will benefit from freshly cleaned tanks. Donations will be given to animal welfare agencies, and pets will be adopted. School children will collect pet food to be donated to charities, and bake sales and car washes will be held as fundraising events. Veterinary clinics will hold free spay and neuter days, or may offer to vaccinate pets at no charge. All over the world, on the very same day, the well-being of animals will be on the minds of millions of people.

Interfaith Chaplain Nancy Cronk feels a day honoring animals is very important at a time when the headlines speak of animal cruelty such as athlete Michael Vick’s alleged ties to illegal dog fighting. Animal Chaplains would like everyone to know that every major faith endorses the responsible stewardship of the earth and all of its creatures. “Deliberate harming of animals is in direct opposition to teachings in all of the major world faiths. Caring for animals is our global spiritual responsibility. If we can teach this ethic to all of our children, animal abuse and suffering will someday become a distant memory”.

Why is it that when a white man comments on a basketball game using the lingo of the rap artists that he has listened to, he MUST be fired from his job? But when a black man is caught and ADMITS to killing dogs for sport and pleasure, everybody wants to forgive him AND let him keep his job??? I think the only people left who are racists are all black and they are exploiting this to the max. It can not be compared to hunting as so many have said. People hunt deer for food and there are laws restricting how and when. Maybe where you are from they eat dogs but I am fron Atlanta and We LOVE our dogs, cats and other family pets. Vick is wrong. You are wrong and how dare you compare an aminal that is a family pet to a chicken. Animals don’t hold dog fights, sick, digsusting inhumane people do and try to justify their sickness through forums such as this!

iT’S AMAZING,Vick did’nt invent dog fighting, nor did he breed the first dog to fight. This has to been going on for years before he was born.to pin this on him is just humane and unjust. He chose a sport other that football to gamble on. Perhaps we should look into the gambling habits of the opposing dog owner. its funny, all these years Peta, and the public was not cocerned, did Peta and every outraged citizen just wake up this year. Are blacks only doing this, as for him killing the weakest link, when is the last time any one bet on the losing pro or fantasy team, do you keep them out of loyalty or how they enhance your pocket… remeber no one likes a looser.

I truly understand he has done something very very wrong but him staying in jail is not helping anyone animals nor man alike. At best he should be sentenced to working with animals and/or animal rights group for his sentence but by no means should his livelihood be taken away. We have known felons (ie; rapist, sex offenders, robbers, and even murderers of human beings) who dont serve or even get less time in prison then this and I don’t see people fussing over that fact. The time does not fit the crime nor will it help him learn his lesson from just sitting in a jail cell. I know for a fact if this was Brady, Romo or even Favre we would not even be having these conversations and it would have been swept under the rug so fast and very much similar to the fine assessed to the CHEATER Coach Bilicheck for straight up cheating ($250k is his pocket change that no doubt the team owner probably paid) . NFL will have you die on the field for them but will immediately pull away when you get into some trouble users!!!!!
