Network Me Baby

I want This Damn Blog to be part of some blogging network - I have my reasons, dammit. Obviously 9rules isn’t an option, they are still going through 1200 entries, and I don’t want to be part of some cheesy, schmucky, lets get rich on google ads type of network.
Is there some middle ground out there? Can anyone hook up this damn blogger with an appropriate blog network where I still own the content and am not told how/what to write? I’m not looking to get rich here, and even getting paid at all is not as important as being a part of a cool network.
If it was a network that used WP in any fashion, that would be a plus too.
Make our own? Personally I dislike most of the “networks” out there now. 9rules has a few really good elite bloggers, but most in generally are not what I’d call high standards.
